Ecuador is a representative democratic republic with a land area of 283,561 km2 (109,484 sq mi) and a population of 17,084,358, of which 2,735,987 live in its capital Quito. Around 64% of the population resides in urban areas. The five largest cities in the country are Quito (2.78 million inhabitants), Guayaquil (2.72 million inhabitants), Cuenca (636,996 inhabitants), Santo Domingo (458,580 inhabitants), and Ambato (387,309 inhabitants). The most populated metropolitan areas of the country are those of Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca, Manabí Centro (Portoviejo-Manta) and Ambato


There are four cities of which one (Quito) is a metropolitan area with Urban Mobility Plans online with a total population of 2.8 million people. The cities range in size from 192,510 people (Ambato) to 2.0 million people (Quito). All plans are in Spanish.
